Apparently, most people are still not aware that scans are harmful.

The reason why I take this so seriously is that I had myself the misfortune of getting a CT scan and an ultrasound, and suffered greatly because of it.

Today, most doctors ask people to do a scan for anything, which means, usually, that it is done for no good reason. It is not the only thing that is dangerous in the medical profession, but some people complain about the other things. Who complains about this ?

Without counting simple X rays, there are about 3 types of scans : CT, MRI and ultrasound.

As for a CT scan, the odds of getting very sick because of the radiation, some years later, is about 1 in 20 (depending on researchers). Each CT scan is the equivalent of 100 to 1000 X rays. And the odds of becoming very sick (internal damage) immediately, because of the dye, is 1 in 50 ! Yes, that’s right, not 1 in 10 000, but 1 in 50. This is the statistics of doctors (around 2 %). And that doesn’t even count the people who have a allergic reaction - sometimes mild and sometimes deadly. What kind of odds are those ? Who would accept odds like this if they knew about it – unless they where already dying. And this is what this test should be used for : emergencies.

Incredibly, about 1 in 5 people, in the United-States, have already had this test. Most researchers admit that the majority of these tests are useless. This means hundreds of thousands of people (not only a few people – which would also be too many) have had a dangerous test for nothing, and became sick because of it.

The CT scans are also usually not well adjusted, and the strength much too high. The result of a research was that the majority of scans would work perfectly well if they were adjusted to be between 2 and 70 times less strong, depending on the specific CT scan.

The other types of scans are harmful, and people should be warned about them. For example, studies show that children are more likely to have learning deficiencies if their mother had an ultrasound.

The Chinese did many studies by using ultrasound on pregnant women who where going to get an abortion. The then tested the dead fetuses. All of them had harm done by the ultrasound.

Most researchers now agree that the reason why the number of autistic children jumped suddenly from 1 in 10 000 to about 1 in 150, is because of the ultrasound. In 2001, 67 % of expecting mothers had an ultrasound, in 2009, it was 99.8 % ! No more had a good reason to have an ultrasound in 2009 than in 2001, or in 1980, or one hundred years before.

Interestingly, the FDA now asks pregnant women to not have an ultrasound for “entertainment”, which means they know it is unhealthy. But at the same time they still ask every pregnant woman to have a “routine” ultrasound, as if changing the name of it would make a difference. Since they know it is harmful, the only possible conclusion is that they want to make people sick. But whatever the reason, whether it is stupidity or something else, the result is that expecting mothers most stop having an ultrasound, unless normal blood tests show that the baby is very sick. Other people also have to avoid having an ultrasound, or any other scan, unless other tests show they are very sick and having a scan can really help.

Obviously, an organization is needed to warn people, and to ask the government to do something about it. The doctors must stop asking for scans for no reason, and each person, before a scan, has to be told about the risks, and asked if they really want to have one. They have to be told and asked very clearly. Flyers should also be put in hospitals to warn people about the very high risks of those tests.

What has to be done :

- Doctors have to stop asking for a scan, unless it is for somebody already very sick, who can really benefit form it (the blood tests are not enough). If it is not clear what somebody has with the other tests, a scan is NOT done, unless he is obviously very sick.

- Hospitals have to tell the patients about the risks and the percentage of people who actually get sick or die because of the scan. Then they must clearly ask the patient if he is willing to have the scan, considering the risks, and considering that the scan is maybe not necessary.

- The people who perform the scans must be monitored to be sure they know what they are doing, and the scans must be checked every day to be sure it is well adjusted (it is at the lowest level possible).

For all of this, an organization is needed, which I am starting. It is called the Scan Awareness Network. I will need to do a professional looking site, and I will need to send letters and flyers to hospitals, politicians and doctors.

Anytime someone will learn about this, it will be one less person to get sick (or even die). So this is one of the most important things that can be done.

Thank you for your support.
