When people think of the word “scam”, most of us would want to believe that we are vigilant enough to not fall short of our own sense of judgement. I was no different. In an act of sheer desperation, I had placed my trust in an organization that promised me attractive returns.
You see, my family isn’t well-off. My mother works odd jobs to support her 3 children plus care for my dad who had suffered a stroke in 2015 and have been immobile every since. I work two part time jobs whenever I am not in school in order to support myself so that my mom would be able to use the little she have on my dad’s treatment and for my sibling’s daily necessities without having to provide for me.
In anticipation of the high school fees that I will have to pay once I step into University, I had become more desperate in my search for money. And given how I would no longer have as much time to work during to having to focus on my studies, I had looked for a job online that would allow me to work from home. I however had placed blind faith in a believable company and fell for a scam that took away all my life’s savings that had amounted to SGD10K. As to how I accumulated that much savings to begin with, it was all a result of my part time work as well as scholarships I have gotten throughout the years. I guess you can say that I was books smart to have gotten all those scholarships, but was not streets smart to have been so gullible.
While I had filled a police report on the incident, I was informed that it is unlikely that my money would be returned. So this is my last burst of hope. I am hoping that setting up this fundraising would be able to assist me and my family, even if it is in the slightest. Thank you, for having read this far.
