Hello and thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my story. This is truly hard me to write as I find myself to be personal and self-reliant however misfortune has forced me ask for the help of others for the first time in my life.
I am a 19 year old college student born and raised in Brooklyn New York, I do not come from a fortunate family and had grown to support myself. I am a hard worker and I spend 7 hours every night working and 6 hours studying pursuing a degree in Biological Chemistry. I have lived in the city all my life and had never left the outskirts of the tri-state area to date. Honestly I'm tired of the city, I love nature, Exploring, Country, fresh air.. I had resided in this gray city far too long and can only dream of leaving if only for a weekend. Nearly a year ago I had decided I shall begin saving to one day fulfill this small dream of mine, To just escape the city and just relax upstate in the blissful vibe of the woods where I would go camp with my beloved pup "Valik". I had begun saving so that I could afford my first car as the extremely high insurance rates a first time driver can expect living in New York, Seeing I am the only licensed driver much less driver in my family registering under a family policy was not an option.
Fast forward 8 months 5 weeks ago I had accumulated $5000 to spend on my aspirations fortunately as I originally had thought I was offered a well-paid driving delivery position with the company I had worked for. This offer was the breaking point which pushed me towards the auto market, I figured I would work hard as I always do.. I would buy a mediocre first car and work to pay off inflated insurance slowly lowering my policy cost and on the short breaks I have spend my time exploring with my puppy in the woods, make the lives of my family and loved ones easier by making errands and travel much more so convenient for them especially so my grandparents who have worked as hard as they could chasing the American dream.
After meeting various craigslist sellers and dealerships I had came across a 2003 Mazda Millennium with 105K mileage, The vehicle looked as if it was in outstanding condition.. There was no bodily damage whatsoever, no lights on the dash, clean title, a vin check came out clean and it ran seemingly smoothly as I took it for a test run. I liked the car much more then I had viewed any other preceding car and I felt this would make the perfect first car. I paid private seller $3800 wished him a happy New Year and paid my insurance company $750 for minimum coverage lasting one month. The first 2 weeks the car ran beautifully, I was working hard and felt the car was paying itself off. Me and my family were ecstatic and I was planning my first out of state trip as I grew more comfortable with my driving.
However my happiness was short lived as I noticed an unusual amount of smog coming from the exhaust of the vehicle, then slowly I noticed smoke coming from the front after I put barely 100 miles into the vehicle. 3 weeks in I took the car to a friend recommended mechanic and when he returned the vehicle to me after performing various tests it barely ran over 10mph. I was told the vehicle had been completely flooded, he had even pulled out the mats and showed me wet spots inside the vehicle. In the process of the flooding, the transmission and engine had been heavily damaged apart from that the vehicle had newly developed oil leaks, past the shiny aesthetic rims he showed me how rusted the car really was and practically deemed salvage, The seller had somehow disabled the check engine lights to create the illusion that the car was in good condition.
As some of you can imagine I was broken as I spiraled into disappointment, My first car was a sham.. I called the seller his phone line was cut, as I completed more in depth searching on his phone number I had found ads of him offering to buy flooded cars and I fell deeper into despair. I couldn’t even tell my friends and family the bad news as they saw how happy I had grown and I can’t bring them more misfortune. Now I'm down $5000 and I'm unable to work my newly found job for the time being, as it is a solemn driving position. So now for the first time in my life I ask for help and hope I can once again pursue my aspirations. I hope with the donations I could either repair this vehicle or simply junking it and tackle the car market again however this time with experience being my guide as it is the best teacher, I will bring the car to a mechanic for a checkup prior to buying
Kind regards and thank you all so much
