Florence Gray, a 35 years old aspiring
, came to Singapore from the Philippines to work in 2015. However on the 20 January 2018, she suffered from a ruptured aneurysm in the
. It is a disorder in which the weakened part of the artery or vein in the
brain had ruptured, leading to a
life-threatening condition where blood pools in
the brain, compressing on brain tissues and jeopardizing her life. She was
rushed to the A&E and since then, had underwent
3 major emergency
in her brain.
To date, she is still warded in the ICU and under critical observations . As some of her brain tissues were compromised by the trauma, she needed tubes to assist in her breathing and nutrition. She also has an extra-ventricular drainage inserted in her brain to help in draining out extra fluids that may be compressing on her brain tissues. Uncountable IV lines lie beside her on the bed which continuously infuses inotropes and sedatives to closely titrate her vital signs and intra-cranial pressure.
Our beloved sister, friend and colleague lies in bed in much pain, but fighting tenaciously for her life. It breaks our heart to see her still trying her best to respond to our calls despite the countless tubes that invaded her body. A brain aneurysm can happen to anyone, even the healthiest; and in many cases, could go undetected until it ruptures one day. Grey led a healthy lifestyle and has no past medical histories that could put her at higher risk for such unfortunate events.
Gray came from the Lapu-Lapu city in the Philippines and has only got a sister who works in Taiwan as a caregiver and an elderly mother at home. Her sister had currently quit her work to take care of her. Gray is currently warded in a public hospital in Singapore. Having no medical insurance and being a foreigner, it is tough to get financial aid as most are catered to locals or PRs. Hence, she desperately needs your kind support in continuing her medical treatment. Up to date, the cost of 3 operations alone and only 5 days of ICU stay had totalled up to $50,000, which does not include future scans, procedures, ICU/ward bed, medications, rehabilitation and consumables.
As the recuperation time for patients who had underwent neurosurgery is much longer due to the injury sustained to the brain, we hence need your kind support and assistance in helping her financially. Neurosurgery patients often need a longer time for rehabilitation as the brain injury could impair on her activities. Your kind donation not only helps her with current treatments but also aid in her rehabilitation journey.
Gray is a great and loving daughter, sister, friend and colleague to many of us. Working as a nurse herself, she finds joy and passion in caring for many others around her and we hope she can continue to do so in the future. Your kind support in donations and prayers will make a big difference to Gray and her family.
