FEED, EDUCATE A CHILD IN THE MAA COMMUNITY

Hello everyone, my name is Nicholas Saidimu ole Dere. I was born and raised in the MAASAI MARA community in KENYA. My parents were both from the Maasai community now deceased. I am the founder of this none profit Community Based Organisation (CBO) which was founded in the year 2017.

The overall goal of this CBO is to assist the vulnerable groups in my community focusing on children from the less fortunate families in my home village IIturisho in Siana by providing food, and ensuring that they acquire both basic and high school education.

Over the years, people from my community have been sustaining themselves through pastoralism as a major source of livelihood.

Our love for both domestic and wild animals have encouraged us remain in the reserve plains since the Pre-Colonial era. We are proud of our culture and protection and preservation of the wild animals more especially the big five namely the Lions, Buffalos, Elephants, Leopards, Rhinos and others like the Giraffes, zebras, hyenas, crocodiles among others as part of our culture.

The Maasai community is globally well known for easily adapting to various challenging situations in the past, however the COVID19 PANDEMIC is one of the disasters that has come with its unique challenges we have ever experienced in the past, Following the World Health Guidelines, the Kenya government has put in place measures to help Contain the pandemic including; the curfew, Cessation movement in some areas/regions.

The containment measures have majorly limited free movement of the entire Maasai community based on their lifestyle as pastoralists and this means they cannot cross boarders in search of pasture for their livestock or go to any open air market to sell or purchase livestock in order to purchase food and other basic commodities for survival. The few remaining cattle are sold at a throw away prices since there is no available market. The Masai Mara region is globally known as one of the most famous tourist destination in the country and is one of the hardest hit regions due to inadequate tourism revenue collection which is one of the source of livelihood for the locals.

There is increasingly shortage of food supply in the community since major towns/borders have closed down due to COVID19 thus making the location a major hotspot for the virus as the nutritional intake level is very low thus compromising their immunity. Thousands of households are going without food on daily basis as a result many of them have a weak immune system. Majority of our people are illiterate and as such lack proper knowledge to handle the COVID19 situation. There is urgent need to create awareness to the community on the effects/impact of COVID19 and more so how to prevent the community transmission, This calls for a robust movement in the community from one point to the other to ensure that there is proper advocacy on the pandemic meaning mobilization of to more resources in areas of providing water for regular hand washing, sanitizers, masks among other requirement.

Based on the above background, I strongly feel I have an obligation and a responsibility in serving my community and that is why I have decided to take this initiative to post this humble request to help raise funds to support my people in my community to be able to create awareness on COVID19 in the community, provide the basic requirements during the pandemic period, provide food to the the starving children in my area and also support their eeducation when the schools reopen after the COVID19 pandemic

The few of us who were lucky to go to school, are therefore, coming up with this kind of programs of EDUCATING our people about the dangers of COVID-19 and the precautions that needs to be under taken, am hereby, requesting for a DONATION of any kind from all over the Globe to help us buy food, cater for medication and schooling. Am also asking for prayers up on the mountains day and night for God to intervene the situation.

I'm a devoted Christian which i know and believe in giving, no one have ever been a looser by assisting!
