We have been taking in dumped cats & kittens for years. In Queensland, the need for carers and funding is getting out of control. We currently have 10 (2 adults, 7 newborn & 1 teenager) in care and ALL of them are going to need desexing, vaccinating & microchipping within the next 6 weeks so that we can then find forever homes for them. For the past 10 years, we have funded this ourselves. We are desperately trying to get some acreage, anywhere in Queensland (as currently we just do this in our house, risking big trouble with local council eeeek!), to be able to set up a sanctuary for dumped cats & kittens. We are capable of doing most of the clearing & building work ourselves but need the land and the materials. The ultimate goal is to be able to have a cattery that can take all local pound kitties and a no-kill policy! We are also planning an education program, that we can take around to regional schools, with the intention of teaching kids about the importance of desexing. Once the sanctuary is complete, we will offer all donators the opportunity to take part in a documentary about the process :)
