Saving baby Mavis

Update posted by Julio Rodriguez On Mar 05, 2015

Hello kind strangers,

Its been a awhile and I have some updates.

She is still on a breathing machine, but has shown improvements overall. Mavis still needs time for her lungs to grow and gain strength, so the doctor has said he has no plans to remove the machine this week. Her blood levels seem fine and they cannot weigh her due to her being attached to the breathing machine. She was drinking about 12 mil of milk a day, but due to some gas in her tummy... they had to stop feeding via her mouth for a day or two.  I will post as I can, the connection can be very hard to work with at times.

Thanks to all who have donated and those who may donate, every bit helps as we go along this bumpy road to getting little Mavis home!

Hello Kind Strangers,

As I mentioned last time, we asked the medical team to give us a new estimate for medical costs. It was re-estimated as 200,000 rmb or about 33,000 usd. We have recieved donations from friends and family of about 66,000 rmb (10,645 usd) so far. This leaves us with about 134,000 rmb or 21,612 usd left to raise. I will readjust the goal amount as such to reflect this new goal!

Our little girl is getting stronger with each day and anything you can donate will help us to give her more time to get stronger!

The next update will have us sharing her growth over the past 2 weeks in the NICU. Stay tuned, donate whatever you can and spread the word!!!

Hello kind strangers!

We just got word that our little Mavis is showing improved white and red blood cell counts! The cause for her weakness seems to have come from a condition known as Neutropenia. They have given her some antibiotics to tackle any infection she might have remaining, if any. She has even been placed on a less powerful breathing machine, as her lungs seem to be showing improvement as well. With the exception of her weakened lungs, everything else is normal.

Both my wife and I are cautiously optimistic, but she may be home with us in 3-4 weeks time! We will keep you updated as we get more news...and hopefully pictures! They don't let parents in very often as patients visitors can disturbe the other infants healing and recovery. I am fighting to try and obtain one new image of her, so stay tuned for that!

Please spread the word and donate what you can to help! Every little bit helps!!! I will be getting a new estimate of care for little Mavis very soon!

Hello everyone,

We had some issues with getting the PayPal verified, so you can now donate.

As for little Mavis, her condition is still fragile and we are unable to touch or see her. According to the doctors, Mavis most likely suffered an infection of the womb, which slowed her growth. Her lungs are still being aided by a breathing machine. My wife and I will be delivering donated money from local friends and family in Beijing and breast milk from my wife. It is our hope that the medicine and the milk will get her lungs stronger at a faster rate!

Please help with what you can, every little bit helps!

From my family to you, thank you very much!
