Saving Baby Marcine

Monday, October 29, 2012 is when I heard the horrible news...

Background:  While my son was in the military, he met a Woman and they fell in love, shortly there after I was Blessed with a beautiful grand-daughter by the name of Marcine.  The relationship between my son and the mother ended, however he wanted to be in his daughter's life.   The mom got a new boyfriend (and she found him FAST).  The Mom received orders to go to Afghanistan, prior to her deployment, she said that I could keep the baby here in California for 4 months and my son or her Mom was going to keep her the other 4 months.  BUT, she gave power of attorney to her NEW boyfriend, he kept the baby as well as her two other children she had from a previous relationship.  I was devastated; I did not feel good about a man who was NOT the baby's father, keeping her for 8 months.  The mom cut all of us off and I could never understand why...

Fast forward -- Sunday, October 28, 2012: My oldest daughter received an emergency call from the mother of the baby, saying that my son needed to go to the hospital to pick up the baby. My daughter called me immediately, I contacted my son, all of us were a nervous wreck. We were scrambling to figure out what was going on.

Monday, October 29, 2012:  My son & I found out the baby was with CPS...when I finished speaking with the case worker, I was sick...I could not eat or sleep for days.  The Mother is in a psychatric/behavioral health hospital. She tested positive for heroin and it was her company commander who called CPS.  The "boyfriend known as Delgado" wanted to keep the baby, since he had this power of attorney, the CPS case worker told him that he had to submit to a drug test, he refused.  He was instructed to take the baby to a "children's center", in which he did. However, the "boyfriend known as Delgado" went back to the children's center without permission and took the baby from the facility.  CPS had to call the police as well as the FBI, it turned into a child abduction case.  I was told by the case worker, it was a struggle getting the baby back from him, it took them 5 hours to locate him and Baby Marcine.  The baby had a black eye and she is underweight.  My heart is saddened, she's only 18 months old.  I cannot even begin to imagine the horror she must have endured.

CPS:  They failed Baby Marcine.  While the mother was in Afghanistan, CPS made her return back to the states -- they saw the evidence of abuse 6 months ago; but they allowed the baby to remain in the care of her boyfriend.  The mom returned to Afghanistan, completed her tour and returned home several months later and this is what happened.  

My Son:  My son is devastated.  He would tell me time and time again how it was always an issue when he would go to pick up the baby from the boyfriend.  One day he and the mom's new boyfriend had an altercation when he went to pick up his daughter, the boyfriend filed a restraining order, my son was no longer allowed to go to the home. I feel the boyfriend known as "Delgado" was abusing the baby back then and did not want my son to see it.  It was as if the boyfriend did not want my son around in any capacity and the mother backed him 100%.  No-one would listen to my son, they only listened to the boyfriend and the mother; now look at how the situation turned out. 

CPS Case Manager's Supervisor:  I had a brief conversation with the case manager's supervisor on Thursday, November 1, 2012.  I told her I could not believe Baby Marcine was taken from a so-called CPS safe facility; I said that would never have happened here in California.  She said we did not have legal custody over the baby...excuse but...that is NOT acceptable. For CPS to call in the FBI, we all know how serious it was.

Saving Baby Marcine:  Through all of this I thank GOD she is alive & well, because we all know what happens most of the time when children are abducted.  I have 3 younger children, all I know is that my son needs me at this time in his life, he's in his 20's and has no clue how to fight this battle; I'm in my 40's, I have a little more life experience and we are going to fight this fight together!  I don't have a lot of money, but I am doing everything in my power to relocate so that we can get this baby out of the care of CPS.  I am trying to leave California in the next 3-4 weeks...it's a big move, a huge transition for my 3 children, but when I got off of the phone with the CPS worker on Monday, I went into survival mode.  I need that baby in my life, I want to love & protect her.  I do not understand why or how someone could abuse a child.  NEVER in my life would I have thought it would happen to a child in my family, NEVER...

PLEASE...help me in my fight to Save Baby Marcine.  If everyone could donate $1.00, everything will help at this point.  The baby has been with CPS for 2 weeks...I cannot afford to hire an attorney at this moment, but if enough donations come in, I will not hesitate to hire an attorney.  For now, the best I can do is to re-locate and help my son with this battle.  We can get her back, it's just going to be a process.
