We are responsible pet parents having to grow up with 12 rescued dogs and we of course know our limit when it comes to how many we can take care of at a given time. Fast forward to today, we have 2 loving dogs that we've taken in about 4 years ago. One was hit by a car and can only walk with 3 legs (several surgeries were needed and we have fully paid for), the other was abandoned by our cleaning lady as she cannot take care of him anymore due to lack of resources.

Then comes Snow. I gave her that name last night (March 2, 2021) as she seems to have white fur but covered with dirt (almost grayish). We decided we cannot have one more as we are also taking care of about 12 rescued cats on top of our 2 dogs. But in Snow's case, she looked really bad and kept going round in circles as if disoriented. She was showing signs of abuse as her legs have deep cuts (vet confirmed they were from knives) and a deep wound on her head, possibly from someone hitting her. We couldn't turn a blind eye on her so without having second thoughts we called up our vet and rushed her there. Also, since we know a lot about rescuing animals, specifically dogs and cats, we know the amount we're trying to raise would just be a minimum for what we truly need. All theories were confirmed: she definitely is an abused dog and would need several tests and procedures since she's a stray so the following steps have been done and will be done (confirmed steps as of today by the vet) to her and medical bills will for sure pile up while she's staying under the vet's care:

1. Blood extraction
2. Screening for blood parasites
3. Screening for distemper
4. CBC - low platelet count
5. Wounds treatment
6. Diuretic to bring down the intra cranial pressure due to the hit on the head. This is needed to see if motor functions would improve.
7. Tests for ehrlichia
8. Then treatment if results are all positive (distemper, ehrlichia, etc)

Current prognosis is guarded as she is showing signs of will to live. This means she's fighting to stand but since her motor skills are highly affected by the blow in her head, she's not out of the woods.

We are going to shoulder the expenses in excess of the minimum amount we're trying to raise.

Update posted by Malen SD at 05:23 pm

Vet had placed an esophagostomy to aid in feeding her as she’s still not able to swallow anything. This means feeding is no longer by syringe but rather the tube inserted and goes straight to her tummy. I feel deeply affected by this as I feel this is too much

Update posted by Malen SD at 02:56 pm

I had to rush to the vet to see Snow today. I saw the update in the app that she had hypothermia and still not taking in any food. It’s been 5 days so it’s alarming for all of us. It’s harder for her to battle this without proper food.

It was my first time to really interact with Snow today. The day we saved her everything happened so fast and my sister was the one carrying her while I documented everything so having her in my arms now was a beautiful thing to experience. I made sure she felt. . . . .

Snow is not out of the woods yet.Vet is waiting for her to stabilize to do the Spinal Tap procedure. She has no appetite and twitching is still observed. The hit on her head and distemper is causing pressure on the brain therefore the aggressive approach has been suggested and authorized.
