Hi, my name is Venn Ian Leopoldo. I have been very blessed to be married to my kind and beautiful wife, Mary Jane, early last year 2021. That day was like a dream and we were really excited to start building a family of our own. Early this year my wife very cheerily came up to me and showed me her pregnancy test. It was positive! The thought that I was going to be a father made me cry with joy! It was the best gift In a lifetime! In the course of weeks, we religiously went to the doctor to monitor my wife and baby's condition. Everything was perfect. Both of them were healthy as could be. We were having the happiest days of our life!

Several weeks passed and it was finally time to get that ultrasound to determine the sex of my baby. This was a very exciting day indeed! My wife went in to get her ultrasound as I waited outside for the results. But what should have been 20 minutes turned into 40 minutes and then turned to an hour and more. After an hour and a half, my wife at last came out of the laboratory and sat down with me. I asked her why the ultrasound lasted so long and asked for the results. She gave me this piece of paper with the results. A quick look In the sex portion, it says "Male"! I was so happy that I was having a baby boy! My joy however was fleeting.

Once I got down to the bottom results of that paper, It read "Omphalocele". A quick google search shows that my son had a hole in his stomach and his organs were sticking out. This devastated me. Wondering if this was an error on the ultrasound equipment, I didn't know what to think of it. My wife's doctor told us to get a congenital scan to make sure of our baby's condition in a few weeks. This scan would show if those ultrasound results were accurate and if there were any other problems with my baby.

A few weeks gone by and it was finally time to get her congenital scan. The scan lasted an hour and more, same as the ultrasound. This really worried me as it wasn't supposed to be that long. After waiting for an hour, she finally got out and sat with me. Same as last time she didn't want to look at the results. I took the piece of paper and read it carefully. The results basically shows: a small left heart, and a gastroschisis. We cried.

Months went by and after doing a series of tests, like 2d echocardiogram and ultrasound. The results were confirmed. My baby would need to undergo 2 complex open heart surgeries and one surgery to fix his hole in the stomach once he is born. The latest ultrasound result was damning. The doctors diagnosed my baby with a transposition of the large vessels in the heart. This was a shock since this wasn't found during his 2d echocardiogram! This would mean another high risk open heart surgery on top of the existing ones! I couldn't do anything but comfort my wife as she cried helplessly in my arms as she asks me why was this happening to us?

I decided to name my son "Nathaniel", a name from hebrew origin meaning "Gift of God". I see my son as a gift, the best gift I could ever hope for. I told my wife that God may have given him to us since he knew we we would care and love him better than anyone in this world.

Me and my wife are ordinary employees. Our meager salary won't be enough to cover all the expenses for our son's surgery, hospital stays and medicines. Me and my wife only have a limited amount of life savings at our disposal but that won't be enough to cover the costs. For context, one complex open heart surgery in the philippines costs around 600,000 pesos or 10,000 dollars. Considering my son will have at least 2 heart surgeries and maybe more.. not including the operation to close the hole in his stomach as well as the medicines and hospital stays, we would really need any help we can get.

Nathaniel is due to be delivered by CSection on November 25, 2022. The money collected will be used to pay for his surgeries and hospital bills.

We try to be happy and positive but as time moves on, the shadow of uncertainty creeps behind us.

Me and my wife are very thankful for you supporting us in our darkest hours.

Please help me save my son.

Nathaniel's Life

Update posted by Venn Ian Leopoldo at 02:37 am

Nathaniel Cepheus was born on Nov 30, 2022 via Csection. Me and my wife held him and was able to hear him, care for him, kiss him, touch him. He was a cute and strong angel. He smiled back at us and opened one of his eyes to see us.
