American Cancer Society CPS-3 Enrollment Volunteer

"Volunteering makes me feel fantastic because I was given another chance. I'm a breast cancer survivor. The moment I woke up as a survivor, I vowed to give back to others.

"When I had the opportunity to become involved with the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), I jumped at the chance.

"CPS-3 is a groundbreaking research study that is seeking to uncover the environmental, genetic, and lifestyle factors that might cause cancer. CPS-1 confirmed the link between smoking and lung cancer as well as other cancers. CPS-2 revealed the relationship between excessive weight and the disease.

"CPS-3 will hopefully discover more causes of cancer. If we can discover what causes it, we can prevent it.

"One of our goals is to enroll 300,000 people nationwide by the end of 2013. I encourage others to join me, as we visit churches, schools, health fairs, and anywhere we can meet people and explain to them why participating in the study is important in the fight to end this disease. I've encouraged so many people to enroll.

"The more information we have, the better we can assess how to end cancer once and for all.

"Volunteering with the American Cancer Society to recruit people for CPS-3 is how I'm finishing the fight for all my family and friends who I love so much."

The American Cancer Society is at the forefront of cancer prevention efforts with the goal that one day no one will be lost to cancer.
