Save JJ’s Life Fundraising

Update posted by Mary Joy Gutierrez On May 22, 2020

As you can see from the photo above, JJ's gums are still paler than normal. We still have 27days medication for him to fully recover. We managed to buy his remaining medicines through other fundraising activities such as borrowing money from good people, and selling liptints for a cause.

JJ's also panting so much due to his anemia. He gained a little more weight because eating is his coping mechanism to fight this disease. We will undergo a weight loss management after his recovery.

We made him drink a herbal tea called tawa tawa, which is believed to increase the platelet of an anemic person. It is commonly used here in Philippines for patients with dengue. We consulted his veterinarian before this and she said it is okay to accompany his prescribed medicines with herbal or organic ones.

Diagnosis: Ehrlichiosis (Canine Dengue)

Jj's positive with Canine Dengue and is Anemic. His platelet is 39 only, while the normal platelet count must be atleast 200. He doesn't show any signs of this disease until it became clinical (his nose bleed, may also be the cause of his blindness). We've been struggling to find money in this trying times. Because of the pandemic, we only have limited funds, but we can't afford to lose our JJ. The estimated vet bills is more or less Php 15,000 (or almost $300 US) - includes blood transfusion fee if the prescribed medicines didn't work. In this humbling situation, I am asking for your prayers and support. 2020 is really a rough year.

JJ's panting heavily due to his anemia. On May 21, will go back to his vet for another tests to confirm if the medicines prescribed were working on him. We are hoping for the best!

March 4, 2020

JJ's left eye was temporarily closed to help it's bulging from persisting. He was prescribed with painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicines. His right eye was diagnosed with dry eyes syndrome. We were prescribed with gentamicine eye drops.

March 13, 2020

His stitches where removed because his eyes were healing well. He got hotspots all over his body. The doctor injected medicines to help heal his hotspots quickly. They also prescribed ointment for it.

Philippines declared Enhanced Community Quarantine in fight with COVID19

April 7, 2020

JJ's left eye is not doing well. It swell up and it looks so painful. He ate a little but we made sure that he is well hydrated.

April 8, 2020

JJ's left eye became blind. We asked our barangay captain for a travel pass and we rushed JJ to his vet. They removed his eye.

April 15, 2020

JJ's sutures bleed. We rushed him to the vet clinic. We decided to hospitalized him until he gets a lot better.

April 22, 2020

JJ was discharged from hospitalization.

April 29, 2020

His sutures were scheduled to be removed.

May 9, 2020

JJ started to sneeze blood. We contacted the doctor and she told us that it might be the discharges from his eye operation. We were adviced to observe him

May 11, 2020

He's still sneezing blood.

May 12, 2020

At night, his left eye started to bleed. He still sneezes blood.

May 13, 2020

In the morning, we rushed him to the clinic. They draw blood from him and run some tests. We discovered that he is anemic. They performed another test and it turns out that he has ehrlichiosis or canine dengue. He doesn't show any symptoms before. He was strong. We thought nothing was wrong. But it turns out to be assymptomatic or sub-clinical. He was hospitalized again. Our veterinary bills have filled up. We don't have enough funds. We were forced to close our shop since the start of quarantine because of COVID19. My mother was also struggling with her business because of the same reason. I started a fundraising for JJ to help with our bills.

May 16, 2020

JJ was discharged from the vet clinic. We managed to get funds from good people. Some of them lend their money that we have to pay in future date. Some of them donated. But from all those efforts, we are only able to pay his hospitalization bills and 5 days worth of medicines. He is still prescribed to take those medicines for 32 days.

May 17, 2020

Together with his medicines, we also incorporate herbal or organic medicines to increase his platelet. There's a plant called tawa-tawa that someone suggested to me. It is said to help his condition. We boiled it and make JJ drink it using a syringe without needle.

He still manages to be a happy dog even if he's sick. In this hard times you can see in his eyes that he wants his life and he is fighting for it. Though it's really difficult for us this past few months because of JJ's health, I learned to have faith and hope. It was like he is telling me that everything will be alright again.

JJ's home but he still have 32 days of medication. He has 5 medicines to take. We can only afford 5 days worth of medicines.

Photo above was the bill we settled today. We borrowed money from good people but it wasn't enough for 32 days. Aside from that, he still need to undergo some tests to make sure that he is fully healed. The veterinarian told us that it could also affect JJ's kidney and liver. We are desperately in need of help right now.

Help us save JJ's life by donating or sharing our fundraising.

As of now, the total donation is PHP2460 out of PHP15000 target ($48 out of $300US)

We will be able to get JJ from the Vet Clinic today. He's still under observation. He needs to undergo another test after 5days to know if he is really okay. You can help us via:
