Story about a dog named SIVKA.
INDIGO is a non-profit animal welfare association located in Zagreb, Croatia. One day we received a call from a lady regarding her neighbour and his dog. This call changed all of our lives. First three words we heard were "please save her". Phone call lasted 30 min and we got all of the information. Her neighbour had a female dog, locked in a basement on a 5 foot chain heavier then herself and with no food or water and surrounded with feces. Lady brought her food and provided much needed human contact because her owner neglected her and was leaving her all alone for weeks.
We took her and saw right of the bat that she had a skin condition (her nails were long and covered in fungi, skin red and missing hair, ears clogged...). Veterinarian gave her medicine but Sivka was not showing any sign of progres. Sivka was not good, she was anemic and after all tests that were done, we came to the conclusion that she has gallstones and a lot of tumors and Babesia gibsoni .
Babesia gibsoni is a tick borne protozoal blood parasite that causes hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, lethargy, and splenomegaly. In the United States, the disease primarily affects American pit bull terriers and is often subclinical. Other breeds of dogs are less often infected and may have a history of fighting with a pit bull terrier. Diagnosis is most often made by identifying the organism on blood smears or through polymerase chain reaction testing. Serologic assays are less sensitive and specific. In many cases, treatment is frustrating, low levels of parasites remain, and a chronic subclinical carrier state develops. Recently, administering a combination of azithromycin and atovaquone has shown encouraging results in treating chronic B. Gibsoni infections.
That means that Sivka was used in dog fighting or more likely she was a bait dog because B.G is transmitted by a dog’s bite and that explains marks on her face. She is the 3rd case in Croatia diagnosed with this desease.
Sivka is one of the most loving dogs with the biggest heart ever. She gives us lots of kisses and cuddles and she loves being with other dogs and that shows us how forgiving and trusting dogs are.
Now Sivka needs surgery to remove the tumors and gallstones but first we need to treat B.Gibsoni.
Medicine is expensive and it is called MERPRONE. SIVKA needs to take Meprone for 10 days, 1.8ml 3 times a day with Sumamed and hypoallrgenic food. For Indigo Sivka is the first case where we are desperate for help.
Surgey+medicine will cost us over 3000 USD. WE NEED HELP.
HELP US SAVE SIVKA
