Save Them From Starvation: Yemen

The whole world is going through harsh times right now, but some of us have it worse than others. Yemen has been ravaged by the civil war for 8 years: people are suffering, people are dying. As if the devastating war wasn’t enough, Yemenis are facing anomaly floods and COVID-19. Poverty, lack of medications and food, impossibility of sustaining an income are unbearable. Imagine having to go outside without a mask simply because you cannot afford it.

Worldwide organizations are trying their best to help, but there are just too many whom they cannot reach, too many who are left out. My mother, who is working in Hodeidah as a doctor, is at the frontline of this battle against COVID-19 and does all she can to tackle the situation.

Me and my mother moved to Yemen from Tajikistan many years ago. Yemenis welcomed us with open arms, greeted with warmth and kindness. We want to pay them back. We believe in each man’s effort. We are trying to support those who need it the most: elderly living in solitude; abandoned children who’ve lost their parents to war and diseases; families living in poverty.We are aiming to raise an amount that can assist us in providing groceries, medicine and sanitary equipment to those who are in desperate need in the city of Hodeidah.

Once we reach our goal and gatherenough money, I will post a detailed report of our spending with bills and photos here and on my dedicated YouTube channel (which I will link shortly).

As someone who was raised there, I don’t see in my mind any abstract images when I write ‘people of Yemen’ but rather actual human beings with whom I grew up, went to school, played outside and broke bread. My heart aches for them. Many locals might have lost their hope and faith in humanity, but I haven’t. I believe that the world is full of love and compassion. Please, help me to show it – to an extent that my power allows me, of course.
