Save the Pit bulls at Pit Pals South Africa

Pit Pals is a pit bull sanctuary located in the Western Cape in South Africa. We started just over a year ago to help the pit bull breed. This is a very popular breed but also they are used for dog fighting and as guard dogs. Many shelters are ill equipped (or not equipped at all) to take care of these dogs who need special care in terms of training and socializing. Most of these dogs need to be kenneled alone and this requires a special infrastructure. When we began our project we knew that there was a need but we didn't anticipate the size of this need .

The 3 key focuses of Pit Pals are:

1. Rescue: Pit Pals tries to answer every call we receive for a pit bull that needs our help. This includes a lot of vet care, good food and TLC.

2. Rehabilitate: Once the dog is in good physical condition, we can begin with a rehabilitaion program. This includes lead training, socialisation and basic obediance.

3. Rehome: Our focus is rehoming. A dog doesn't belong in a shelter and they deserve to be rehomed to a loving family. Our adoption process is quite strict and the adoptive families must be commited to pursue the rehabilation program. Pit Pals also assists owners who need to rehome their dog, for whatever reason, through a smooth process, to do our best to avoid the dog ever seeing the inside of a shelter.

In order to fulfill our mission we need special facilities where the dogs can be separated, in the kennels but also in different play runs. We also require professional and qualified power breed trainers. Pit Pals runs without any corporate or state funding. We rely purely on private donations and on the selling of our branded merchandise (just a start at the moment).

We also want to emphase that none of Pit Pals members are paid, and no costs are reimburse. Every single cent goes to the dogs.
