A few of us are trying desperately to save the dumped bunnies around Capet town, the driving force coming from the horrific state bunnies are being found around a dam in vredekloof. We need help with medicals, sterilisations, more housing options at our rescues, which all cost’s money and sadly it restricts our rescue operations.

RESCUE BSA was put together in the hopes of making a difference to these fluffy creatures, who deserve a chance.

So many bunnies were dumped recently and thus i've decided to put together a rescue and tell the stories of some of the dam bunnies. Over the last year we have caught so many injured or ill Vredekloof dam bunnies- many survived, but some didn't. To name a few of the UNLUCKY ones:

ASH- he was picked up and had shortness of breath, we rushed him to the vet. He was put in the oxygen tank and the vet diagnosed him with a severe respiratory infection- a couple of hours later he passed away in the oxyzen tank.

CHESS- 3 week old baby that was caught by a cat. Little Chess was so weak when we got to him. The vet said the cats teeth punctured his organs. After many hours of trying to save him, little Chess passed away at the vet.

BROWNIE- He was caught by a cat and he was left for dead in the streets. The cat managed to tear all the skin on his back legs off and break the legs. He was rushed to the vet, but unfortunately his injuries where so severe that he had to be pts.

We tried our absolute best to save these angels, but their injuries were too severe. RIP beautiful babies😔

Some of the beauties that SURVIVED their terrors. To name a few.

SHILOH: Shiloh was caught by a cat at 3 weeks old. She developed an infection and later an abscess and had to undergo surgery at the age of 4 weeks old to remove her abscess. She survived and she is now a beautiful 20 week old bun. Shiloh is sterilized and apart of a lovely bun family.

HOPPER: Hopper was caught by a team of people after seeing his white eye. The vet said his eye ruptured, so it had to be removed. Hopper was also sterilized under sedation. This beautiful boy recovered beautifully and was flown to Johannesburg to live out his days with the wonderful lady that adopted him.

WILDLING: Beautiful Wildling was picked up (yes that tame) with a torn lip. He had plastic surgery to repair his lip and he was neutered. He is now living out how days as a free roaming bun with a bun family.

AIMEE: Was caught after we suspected a broken leg, but she had a big infection in her leg. 2 days after catching her we realised she had milk and went back to search for the babies. We found her burrow and 7 babies, all alive, but barely. Due to Aimee being on so many meds, a fellow rescuer had to hand raise all 7 of her 10 day old kits. All 7 survived and got homed to very good homes at 8 weeks. Aimee was caught pregnant, but babies had to be aborted due to her being bred over and over again at the dam and thus being terribly underweight . She was spayed after abortion. Not only did she have the infection, but she also had second degree burn wounds that require hourly meds and IV fluid drips every few hours. Aimee recovered beautifully and is now part of a happy bunny family.

Once again only a few of the special ones that were rescued and survived.

As you can see the dam life is NOT glamorous. They get killed by cats, dogs, diseases, prey birds, ect. We even recently picked up a bunny tail that was burned off with a lighter.

So please if you can help us, we and the bunnies will be eternally grateful.

It was Friday 25th Jan, a little bunny in a random open field in the south of Johannesburg was mauled by a cat, luckily a person was around to distract cat, causing the cat to release bunny. Unfortunately the damage had been done. She has gaping holes on the chest. . . . .
