Let’s end the killing of stray dogs!
Over 100 dogs and puppies were killed last month as a supposed solution to the street dog problem here in the town of Sinjar, Iraq. 500 more dogs and puppies face the same fate. These animals need protection, shelter, and food and if we do not take immediate action and real steps towards solving the issue, very soon hundreds of dogs will be killed. This is not an effective or an ethical solution to the problem, but cruel and abusive treatment of animals.
We are a team of 4 people living in Sinjar which is a small town in Iraq. Last month after an effective social media campaign we were able to convince the local authorities to postpone the killing of 500 dogs. This was allowed under the condition that we figure out what to do with the animals within the next weeks.
The goal of our campaign is to raise enough funds in order to build a caring shelter for these dogs, providing food, hygiene and vaccination for them. We also aim to control the population of stray dogs by initiating large scale neutering programmes and seek to create an environment that encourages the adoption and fair treatment of these stray dogs as well as a change of policies. We can set an example for the local authorities and convince them that this is the only sustainable solution to this problem.
We need all the help we can get, every small or big donation counts! Help us save the dogs and solve the problem in our home town for good!
Additional information: As it is not possible to start campaigns in Iraq directly, we teamed up with someone in Luxembourg who assisted us in the making of the fundraiser. If you have questions about our project or you would like to help us out, please get in touch!
