In August 2017, the owner of a baby elephant named, Thong Ae, moved her to Save Elephant Foundation (SEF) at Chiang Mai, as her health was not going well after the loss of one of her nannies, that passed away, at the tourist camp she was living.
Thong Ae was separated from her mother when she was only one year old, and the owner took her to work as a street beggar. When she arrived at the SEF, Thong Ae, quickly became the darling of many nannies. The 10 years old elephant Faa Mai is a big protector of her. The strong bond of love and protection for Thong Ae, by Jenny, Faa Mai, and her other nannies, as well as ThongAe's great friendship with her playmate Dok Geaw, is witnessed by everyone and the founder of this project, Lek Chailert, always feared that one day the owner would come to take her back. They have watched this little girl growing up happy and healthy with them, running free, no chains, no crushing, no suffering... It was always sad to think that Thong Ae would be taken from the SEF´s family to another life.
Lek was recently contacted by Thong Ae's owner and she was told that they want to take her back now, as they need her to work. Everyone´s heart is broken to think that she will be separated from those who live with her, her herd, her nannies, her life there. We can not let that happen and the only way of saving her and avoid her new herd´s suffering is to try to buy their freedom. That´s why we need your help!
