Being a South African I am extremely proud of our wildlife heritage and it is an important part of our countries tourism. That’s why Rhino conservation is a subject very close to my heart. Rhino poaching has approached epidemic proportions, incidents rose by 440% between 2008 and 2014. Last year, poachers killed a record 1004 South African rhino, that’s nearly 3 animals a day. At this rate, in a few years’ time this majestic animal will cease to exist. From DNA profiling to constructing a new fence to separate the part of the Kruger National Park that borders Mozambique, where most of the poaching takes place, all these initiatives require vast amounts of money. As individuals supporting a cause, we often wonder how our small contribution can make a difference. I would like to think that I’m not the only one that cares deeply about preserving the lives of these beautiful animals. I thank you for helping me make a difference.
