For two decades, Shaina has been a Life and General Sciences teacher to middle school and secondary school students in the Philippines and New York City. Her means of living depends largely on her ability to speak. Sadly, she was recently diagnosed with cancer of the tongue or squamous cell carcinoma on the tongue.

Should she pursue surgery now to remove the carcinoma, her entire tongue will be removed and this will drastically diminish her quality of life and render her disabled. She is the sole breadwinner of her family, supporting her 72-year-old mother.

Shaina is an unobtrusively kind and sensitive soul who is always one of the first to lend a helping hand, a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on to friends who are going through troubling times. She doesn’t attract attention but she does her part to help the needy, bringing extra food around, and sharing what she can with others and not just with people but animals too.

Shaina is known as a cat welfare advocate who takes care of strays and community cats. Whenever there are sick and injured cats she lovingly and patiently nurses them back to health or brings them to the vet for shots, spaying, and general check-ups.

Both her fathers - biological and stepfather - passed away due to stage IV cancers, and we hope she won't suffer as they did. Though she was able to catch the carcinoma at an earlier stage, she cannot afford the chemotherapy which requires a week’s admission in the hospital per cycle of chemo. Her insurance will not be able to cover the costs of her treatment plan as she already used almost half of her allocation for tests, scans, and bloodwork.

We know these are trying times, but any amount you can spare will help her road to healing and battling cancer. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated. Please send your healing thoughts and join us in praying for Shaina's speedy recovery.

  • "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28 (KJV) If we love God, all things (good or bad) that happen to us will become good for us eventually. So worry about nothing except whether we love God enough.
