What is Resonancia Sound Lab?

Resonancia Sound Lab is synthesis and electronic music academy & studio, a laboratory of ideas and more. It is the only academy in Tijuana (and probably in northwestern Mexico) focused completely on teaching sound synthesis, basics of electronics, circuit building, history of electronic music and much more.

But more important, Resonancia has developed a community of synth enthusiasts who are very passionate about the beautiful world of sound synthesis. As an example, we have developed the RES synth, a series of modular and integrated systems entirely built from the ground up, by instructors and students from our community.

Also, Resonancia's active community has created and hosted some of the most important events in the region dedicated to education and culture of synthesizers & electronic music; like the Tijuana Synth Scene and the Tijuana Synth-Con. The latter being an event one of a kind in Mexico, a binational synthesizer convention. It brings together the synth community from the Tijuana-San Diego region and special guests from around the world, in an event filled with talks, master classes, workshops, live performances, discussion panels and much more.

Who is Resonancia?

Resonancia is Hector I. Benitez. He loves teaching, learning and experimenting with sound synthesis & electronics. He founded & started Resonancia (with the help of some friends) about 6 years ago, although the idea started many years back.

Why does Resonancia needs my support?

Resonancia has been renting a space in downtown Tijuana for about six years now, where people can learn, share, collaborate and be in contact with the gear we all love, synthesizers. Resonancia’s main goal is focused on education and the community, because we truly believe that these are one of the most important parts that can contribute and help create a better human development for all of us.

I was self financing all activities but in April, 2020, I lost my job due to the pandemic. And, I haven't been able to fully teach at the studio all these months, since then.

I got infected by the Coronavirus late in December 2020, and it got complicated with a severe pneumonia that put me in bed with an oxygen machine for many weeks. Fortunately, after almost 2 months of treatment, I was able to recover. But I’m still going through rehabilitation and controlling (hopefully getting rid of) the sequels of this illness.

I'm just starting to open some of my courses online again (about a week ago), but still have a lot of ground to cover, especially with the rent and maintenance. As some of you may know, the treatment (doctors, lab, medication, etc.) for COVID-19 is very expensive and it drained all my savings.
