Save Reece’s leg

Hello Everyone,

My name is Bianca van Wyk. I am 23 years old.

A month ago my boyfriend was in a bad motorbike accident. I found him outside of our property lying in the middle of the road. I thought he was gone. But he wasn’t.

He had hit a tree with such force. It seems his brakes had failed.

He had such trauma to his left leg. He has broken his top leg bone, femur, and bottom leg both the tib and fib. The bottom leg bone was sticking out of his skin. He has fractures in his pelvis, neck and ribs. He also had a ruptured bowel.

I honestly didn’t think he was going to make it.

He went to a government hospital as he doesn't have medical aid.

He was in ICU for 5 days. He had pins placed into his leg . And they had cleaned his bowel seepage too. It seemed that all went well. We had faith . Unfortunately once they had moved him from ICU everything went downhill from there.

They didn’t take care of him properly. They didn’t feed him for 5 days. They didn’t do his septic tests daily. They didn’t clean his wounds for 3 days but yet wrote it up in the file. His antibiotic IV wasn't administered regularly either. One night he was up at 1 in the morning trying to clean his own leg. It was smelling so bad with green pus coming out.

We took him out of the hospital because he was so traumatized and his mental state was not good. So they refused to help us with any copies or reports.

A friend has been helping us with his wounds, which were not cleaned or closed properly by the hospital.

We recently had xrays done to see what is happening with his leg and to my horror found they haven't repaired his leg properly.

He urgently needs new surgery and infection control.

With getting feedback from hospitals and the costs of a private hospital we need more than what was stated.

I am asking from the bottom of my heart for your help. Please.

We really need this. It’s urgent.
