As you read this, an estimated 13 hectares of the world's forest are lost. In the next 30 seconds, another 13 hectares will disappear. Within a minute, mankind succeeds in undoing 1,000 years of natural evolution. Read on to understand a little more about our Malaysian rainforests, and how YOU can help us change for the better.
Forests play a crucial role in ensuring our continued existence. As the burgeoning urban population increases demand on forest areas, and Earth’s carbon sinks. It is reassuring to know that our understanding of the drivers of deforestation and climate change are growing more robust, to make more land available for housing and urbanization.
The over development in the Central region (comprising the four more developed states; Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan) has transformed Selangor into a heavy industry region. Heavy development has narrowed certain stretches of the river: this contributes to flash floods especially after heavy rain. The once green land has being transformed to a bare ground with a lot of carbon emitted factories and high-rise buildings.
There is no time for us. Reforestation needs to start as early as possible. Stop Talking, Start Planting. However, without your help, the planting program is struggling to get off the ground.
