Campaign Story
Nkosinathi has worked for my family for some time now. He is an honest and hard-working man, and has ambitions to better his life. While working for us, he has got his Code 10 driver's licence, and is looking to further his education. However, life is not easy for him. He lives with his elderly mother, his young son, and three nieces and nephews who are unable to be looked after by their own parents. Nkosinathi is the only bread-winner in the family. They live in a small 2 bedroom RDP house. A RDP house is a low-cost house built by the government for the previously disadvantaged communities of South Africa. Unfortunately, this house is in danger of collapsing around them. It has been built on a 'raft' foundation and was left unplastered. Because we live in a part of the country that experiences heavy rainfall in the summer, Nkosinathi's home is taking in a lot of water. It has started to crack because the foundation is not strong enough to bear its weight. Water seeps through the walls and up through the floor every time it rains. The two external doors are rotting. I would like to help this family secure their future in this home. If this house collapses, they will be homeless. Underpinning is needed to strengthen the foundation. The house needs to be plastered inside and out to waterproof the home. Two new doors need to be fitted, as well as gutters. An 'apron' of concrete needs to be built around the house to direct the water away.
I'd like to raise the necessary funds to do this building work. I've spoken to one of our builders who has quoted me roughly R25 000 for the job.

Great to see we still have a caring society and families that care for extended families.
