Little One needs your help to save his leg and his life. Someone shot him in the front right leg shattering his bone. He needs surgery as soon as possible. Please help.

My roommate and I have been caring for feral and abandoned cats in the neighborhood for some years now. We trap, neuter and release (TNR) them when necessary to keep the population down and to improve their chances for a better life. But caring for 12 – 15 cats can be expensive (incl. feeding and taking to the vet when sick or injured). And while we normally get by somehow, things have been hard lately.

Little One was a runt and never grew very big but was very active and made up for his size with a physique that reminds me of a tiny pit-bull. Little One loved to jump 7 ft. fences and fly through the trees like a monkey. That was, until last week, when some cruel person shot him in the right front leg and shattered his bone. Such a sweet, young, vibrant cat doesn’t deserve this.

Little One first came to us as a tiny kitten in the middle of the night looking for food. He came to my window talking up a storm (we built a ramp for our cats to come in and out as they wished from the side yard). He started coming all the time and then disappeared suddenly. Two years later, he returned to my window talking again, as if asking if he could stay and soon became a part of our family. Everything seemed fine for many months until May, when I had to be rushed to the ER and have emergency brain surgery for an abscess that was about to break. That put me out of work and hospitalized for a few months, during which time my car’s transmission blew and I also had to get a new vehicle. Finances became very tight.

In my absence, I discovered that some of my cats disappeared, which I had attributed to 4th of July revelers who may have hurt or scared them. Then, last week, Little One came crying at my window panting very hard. That is when I saw his injury and took him to the vet. Evergreen Veterinary Clinic showed us the x-ray and told us that it will cost about $2,956 to do surgery to fix his leg and to confirm that the pellets are not somewhere where they can do more harm to him later. Even if they can’t save his leg, it’ll still cost at least $1,600 to amputate it.

We humbly ask for any help you can give us to help us save Little One’s life and hopefully restore him to the happy, active kitty he once was. Thank you and bless you for your help.

  • Thank you very much, Ellen!! The poor little animals rely on people to care for them and it breaks my heart when I see them abused or neglected. I know I can't save the world, but I try to do my best to help as many as I can. Hopefully, Larry and I will be able to re-open US Pet Rescue (and hopefully get 501-c-3 status) once we move and then that way we can help many other animals get neutered and find good homes. In the meantime, Little One is doing okay still. He is still active and even jumps up on the refrigerator!! We talked to the doctor today. We are still hoping to avoid amputation if, possible. The good news is he used his paw last night to check the water before drinking! That shows he still has feeling in his paw.

  • Oh, thank you so much, AnEagle! He is a good boy. Yes, we are keeping our paws crossed. As I said before, Little One is a total trooper and has had a good attitude even though it is clear he misses playing outside and flying through the trees. He does a lot of exploring still in the house though. Thank you again for your kind words and your gracious donation.

  • Kitties are precious pets - I miss having them around, but time marches on in our case regrettably. Hope you reach your needed goal.
