In 2008 my husband and I got married and right away got our wheaten terrier Kona. We had hopes of having a long time dog, since they can live to be 15 years old, and raise a family with him. For the past two years we have been trying to have children and that has been a huge struggle financially and emotionally. This past New Year's Eve we found out we were finally expecting a baby and then were shortly devastated 8 weeks later when I miscarried. As if that was heartbreaking enough we just found out our furry baby Kona had a bad case of pneumonia. After two weeks of medication, breathing treatments, and being hospitalized his health started improving. Yesterday he rapidly took a step back and we rushed him to the ER because he couldn't breathe. The X-rays came back showing that fluid was building up around the lungs so right away they had to drain it. After an ultrasound and testing the doctors think it could possibly be a lung torsion, where one if the lung lobes becomes twisted, or something puncturing his lung. The only way to know for a fact and to save him would be for him to undergo a very specialized surgery where they open the chest cavity and remove the lobe and stop the fluid from leaking. Many dogs come out of this surgery and live long happy lives. Please help us save our Swheatie Kona!
