Kidney failure patients face difficult days that may end with a complete cessation of dialysis service

We stand again today, to convey to the entire world the cries of pain that have become stifled in the wake of a difficult and dangerous scene in the chapters of the crisis of shortage of medicines and medical supplies, which continues to haunt the headlines of the health service and adds complex suffering that may not give the patients of the Gaza Strip more time to receive treatment opportunities, and perhaps 1,100 patients will fail. Kidney disease, including 38 children who had dialysis machines attached to their bodies for about 3 dialysis sessions per week. Today, they are awaiting with great fear and anxiety their inability to receive dialysis service due to the lack of medical consumables needed to perform the dialysis sessions that constitute their life.

In light of this painful reality, the Ministry of Health points out the following:

1. The Israeli occupation is the main cause of the suffering of patients in the Gaza Strip, and their suffering has been exacerbated by its ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip for the seventeenth year in a row.

2. The Ministry of Health provides dialysis service in 6 centers distributed throughout the governorates of the Gaza Strip, at a rate of 13 thousand dialysis sessions per month, which is a sensitive service that saves the lives of patients with kidney failure.

3. The Ministry of Health’s stores are completely empty of dialysis filters, cannulas, and blood transfusion tubes, and what is available in the dialysis departments is about to run out.

The Ministry of Health warns that dialysis departments will stop operating within a few days due to an acute and unprecedented shortage of medical consumables necessary to continue the service.

5. Stopping the dialysis service means that 1,100 patients with kidney failure are facing real danger and life-threatening health complications.

6. All concerned parties must take urgent and immediate action to save kidney failure patients and not limit themselves to emergency interventions that keep patients and their health services in danger.

7. We renew our call for human rights institutions and humanitarian organizations to condemn and criminalize the occupation’s practices against patients and causing the loss of their lives by depriving them of treatment inside the Gaza Strip, preventing their exit for treatment outside the Gaza Strip, and being stubborn in bringing in their medical and diagnostic equipment.
