US$0.00raised of $12,000.00 goal goal
My name is Valentina Belknap. I own and operate a non-profit parrot rescue, "Parrot Rescue Center of Costa Rica". We rescue, rehabilitate and release the native parrots of Costa Rica. The parrots that we receive come from the government agency known as MINEAT. MINEAT confiscates parrots that are kept illegally and/or are kept in bad conditions. We currently house 18 parrots. Two Scarlet Macaws, seven Red Lored Amazons, three Yellow Naped Amazons and two Parakeets.
Our primary focus is to breed and release the endangered Yellow Naped Amazon. That I am aware of or have found, there are no breeding programs in Central America for the Yellow Naped. As soon as we have constructed new habitats, they are almost immediately filled. Our immediate and current goal is to build a separate habitat specifically for the Yellow Naped and to construct breeding cages. We have the land to place these on but do not have the funds to build the additional enclosures.
The aviary will be 10m x 8m x 5m. The breeding cages will be smaller. It will also be necessary to build a bridge over the river that flows through the middle of the property. During the rainy season it is at times inaccessible due to high water.
