Elze currently lives with, and has been living with Myasthenia Gravis for the last 5 years. Myasthenia Gravis is an auto-immune disease that is characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue. She also has difficulty speaking, swallowing, has double vision and severe shortness of breath. It is a debilitating disease where treatment seeks to relieve the symptoms as there are no known cure for this disease. The treatments currently available for this illness consists of immune suppressant drugs and massive dosages of cortisone, which has in itself severe side effects. In addition to the myasthenia, the treatments currently keeping her alive have now compromised her kidney and liver functioning and caused cortisone induced diabetes.

She has adopted 2 children who she has raised from infants and the joy you get from watching her with her children is unfathomable. She is one of the best mother’s I have ever seen. You are not only helping Elz, but you are helping 2 beautiful children who don’t deserve to lose their mom. No one deserves to lose people and while we can’t help everyone, this is definitely a situation where we can help a happy family stay together.

Not everyone diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis has cardiac involvement. Elze’s heart is unfortunately severely affected by the disease. She struggles to breathe at night and can often not even climb the stairs to her room. Traditional treatments have proven ineffective, leaving her in ICU for weeks on end with very limited and short lived benefits.

In our search for a better life for her, we have come across treatments that are much less invasive than the traditional known Myasthenia treatments and proves to have far greater benefits and less to no damaging side effects. 6 months ago some of her blood was sent to a pathology lab in Germany for analysis and it was discovered that she has very high levels of toxicity. This is leading to Epigenetic changes in her body, which is increasing her chances to developing diseases like Leukaemia. This is also believed to be playing a deciding roll in her myasthenia. Treatment for this is available in Johannesburg, but like most treatments are costly and will not be covered by medial aid. In addition to this, this disease has now become so debilitating that she is unable to work to provide for her family and pay for this potentially lifesaving treatment

In asking myself, why you would choose to help Elze as opposed to so many other people who also needs help, all I can say is that she is an exceptional human being. Elze is a nurse by profession and has been in private practise for the past 12 years. She has helped countless people at her own expense, people like her, who have often come to her as a last resort because they have lost all hope. As a result of this illness, she has had to cut back dramatically on the amount of patients that she can help.

She needs financial assistance for the following:

  • Cost for the Treatments (done in JHB)
  • Travel costs between Pietermaritzburg and JHB for treatments
  • Approximately 1 year of living expenses – she hasn’t been able to work for the last 3 years and won’t be able to work during the treatment

The world is changed by our actions not our words and Elze’s actions have changed not only my own but many people’s worlds. I trust that in some way this letter can serve to inspire you to, through your actions, also be part of improving our world by supporting a person who has so greatly given of her time and energy to serve others.

Testimonials

"I am a school friend of Elze and as a pharmacist by profession has worked alongside her in her integrative health practice in Pretoria. I have been a witness over the past ten years of Elze’s incredible commitment and dedication to those in need. In her occupation, as a nursing sister in private practice, her expertise and knowledge of all alternative health practises are not only outstanding but also life changing. She will often ignore her own health needs in order to address those of her clients in all ways possible.

In her time of need she deserves to receive help in the same way that she has given to so many over the past ten years.

She has used her strength and energy to help so many others, please consider this request to help her."

"My journey with Elze Scheepers started towards the end of 2008 when among other health issues, I was in severe burn-out with an average blood pressure of 60/45 and bedridden for more or less 3 months. At that time I already knew that my path to health would require connecting with my emotions in a way that would integrate that which were dissociated, which felt like an impossible work to me.

Elze was the only health practitioner that I worked with at the time, and her intervention towards both my health and integration objectives was immense. I have great appreciation for her dedication to her profession and the relentless dedication with which she “fights” for her client’s health.

With Elze now facing incredible health challenges of her own, I would like to join others she has helped in my request that you please help her to raise funds for the medical treatment that she needs."

"Elze is one of the most exceptional people I have ever met. I encountered her eight years ago when I was suffering with Hashimoto disease, my immune system was depleted and I was in depression. I found it difficult to cope with everyday life. After many fruitless attempts to find recovery I was referred to Elze, and for the first time I had hope, and I could see light at the end of the tunnel.

Elze was instrumental in bringing me back to health and restoring my ability to live a normal life. She gave me back my life. She always treated me with such care and commitment. Her professional knowledge and understanding is undergirded with deep care and kindness. She is always consistent and I felt as if she was fighting my battle with me.

I know that I can call on ELze at any time, she is always ready to help in any way possible, and does not consider or allow her own needs to limit what she feels is necessary.

Elze now faces her own health crisis; and along with many others who have been so profoundly helped by her, I ask you to grant this request to assist with funds for the treatment she so desperately needs. Surely someone like this, who has helped so many, in their dark hour, could be helped in her time of need.

Please please could you help Elze."
