Help save Eden Kids from pending closure due to lack of stable funding.
Here is a recent letter of appeal from our chairperson:
I am writing to you because Eden Kids Trust currently finds itself in a financial crisis.
This is due to two reasons: increase in expenditure and decrease in donor support.
Increases in expenditure: The vast majority of our expenses (over 90 %) comes from paying salaries. Over the years we have tried, as the Trustees, to ensure that we are paying fair salaries, showing those who are employed that we value the time and effort they put into running Eden Kids. We recognise that the work done by them is not easy – that they face many day-to-day challenges, especially being based in an Informal Settlement. We currently employ Nhlakanipho Gazu fulltime as the Director of Eden Kids and then Wandile Mthalane and Spha Mbeje in a part-time capacity. They work afternoons only and are “hands on” in helping Nhlaka in the running of the programmes at the centre in the afternoons. They also assist with Holiday clubs, camps and other outings. Obviously each year, taking into account inflation, the amount we spend on salaries has increased.
Decrease in donor support: Whilst we have been exploring, and will continue to explore, avenues for fundraising and have sent numerous applications for government funding, we currently rely completely on individual donors and churches/schools for our Income. Over the years, some donors have stopped contributing – perhaps through personal circumstances changing, or even through insufficient communication from Eden Kids. We do want to accept the role we need to play in regular contact with our donors, as well as showing the appreciation we have for all they have done, and continue to do.
So please know that we are most grateful for your support and financial contribution towards continuing the work at Eden Kids.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns, ideas or queries.
With much appreciation and greeting from all at Eden Kids,
