Moldova, Europe’s poorest country, had one of the highest rates of institutionalisation in Europe. Most of these vulnerable young people were not orphans, but were separated from their parents by poverty.
Moldova has suffered political instability since 2006. It was also badly affected by the global financial crisis. Despite this, the country has implemented major change, transforming the lives of thousands of children. We have been working in the Republic of Moldova since 2017.
Our national work has developed policy, strategy, legislative change and capacity building for Moldova. ”Educatie si Spirit” also led on the development of a national strategy of inclusive education. This was essential, as many disabled children had been separated from their parents to live in residential institutions, often far from home.
- The chance for many more children to join foster families

Save Children Moldova’ is an outreach dedicated to improving the lives of orphans without parents, social orphans, and displaced families in Moldova (the poorest country in Europe).
The asociation provides food, clothing, school supplies, and hygiene necessities for orphans in orphanages and transitional homes. The Asociation ”Educație si Spirit” since 2017 has provided food, clothing, school supplies, and hygiene necessities for orphans in orphanages and transitional homes.
The resources and support provided by ”Educație și Spirit ”in the demonstration areas led to a dramatic reduction in the numbers of children in these institutions.
Through the Annual Christmas Programs in three regions of Moldova, Asociation ”Educatie si Spirit” shares the joy of the birth of Jesus. Asociations workers sing songs with the children, play games, tell stories, and do skits. The Asociation provides gifts of boots, winter jackets, chocolates, and fresh fruits. The Asociation also provides attractive hand-knit scarves knit by for each child.
For hundreds of thousands of children in the Moldova, childhood hurts.
Vulnerable children are being ignored, left without support to face abuse and neglect, domestic violence, deprivation and poor mental health.
Every 15 minutes a child is moved to care for their own safety.
Things are getting worse, not better.
These children have no choice over their circumstances. But we can choose to help them. No why why launching our Choose Childhood campaign, to urge the government to act now, to put children first and protect them from harm.
To inspire the public to support our work and help children in crisis. Children like ”Save Children from Moldova”.
