Bairo Pite Clinic (BPC) or Bairo Pite Clinic Lanud is a non-government, not-for profit organisation located in the capital city of Dili that was established in 1999. Our goal is to provide free healthcare services to the people of Timor-Leste.

Our outpatient clinic sees on average 300 patients a day, and we have 4 inpatient departments, caring for up to 50 inpatients a day. Our maternity department helps deliver up to 110 babies a year and we also run 400 mobile clinics to serve the more remote areas in Timor.

Recently, due to budget changes within the Timor Leste government, the ministry of health, which has been the major funder for the clinic in recent times, has been unable to continue funding our clinic. As a result, we are facing the possibility of having to close our clinic down and this would leave thousands of patients without medical care.

We are hoping to raise enough money to keep out clinic open and continue our efforts to save lives and improve the health of the people if Timor Leste.

August 1st: Government Subsidy has now ended, but Staff's Commitment Continues

Update posted by James Keith Clare at 08:05 pm

Approaching the death knell. Yesterday staff voted to continue working as total volunteers...that is no compensation whatsoever or hope of compensation...amazing commitment shown in the face of next to nothing in funding despite our ongoing best efforts. This is because they are extremely professional and see the miraculous results we

Update posted by James Keith Clare at 04:58 am

(The patient.) A most difficult case 3 days ago...young man semi-comatose for 2 days...or is he just depressed and hysterical? Well no this patient was fading into unresponsiveness...then quick screening revealed immunodeficiency and an emergency CT of the brain(yes, it's available at present) revealed a 4 cm mass...probably lymphoma. Sadly. . . . .

House Calls - Courtesy of BPC - June 4 2019

Update posted by James Keith Clare at 04:27 am

Bouncing out of the mountains on treacherous tracks we had traversed TL north to south. We bypassed Zumbalai amidst water buffalo and scattered dwellings made of the simplest materials. Suddenly we hit the most modern super highway imaginable! Bye bye bucolic hello asphalt. Shocking contrast. Then on to the most. . . . .

A humanitarian wish from BPC

Update posted by James Keith Clare at 04:22 am

Great Sunday morning rounds with visiting radiologist and infectious disease specialist. Learning together, looking to collaborate, sharing ideas. Also an opportunity to showcase the difficulties, challenges and successes we experience regularly. This highlights the unconscionable gap in quality of care available here and just hours away in Australia . May

Brief History of Timor-Leste (East Timor) - May 20 2019

Update posted by James Keith Clare at 04:18 am

Today we celebrate the independence of Timor-Leste . Gerald Ford and Henry Kissinger were in Indonesia the day before the massive invasion of this beloved half island. Then followed 24 years of brutal military genocide in which one third of the population died. Every family suffered. But they persisted and
