Hi! My name is Anne. I am reaching out for help to fund my eye treatment and vision therapy.
I was born with Retinopathy of Premature (ROP), a form of eye disease that could lead to blindness. Having ROP, the person's retina is torn off hence causing visual damage and gradually becoming blind over time.
More info on ROP
I started wearing glasses to aid my vision since I was 4 years old. Then at age 6, after my first eye surgery, my right eye has become legally blind and I have been surviving with my left eye alone since. As adult, 5 years ago, I had to undergo a couple of surgeries as my left vision was severely degrading and I became blind for a whole year.
It has always been my worst nightmare growing up to become blind one day. I was admitted into psychiatric ward for a month while waiting for the eye surgery due to depression 5 years ago. It was the worst feeling and 2014 was the worst year of my life. I wish to never go through that again.
Even after the surgeries, I can't read books, newspaper, menu in the restaurant or product label because the font is too small to see and I have large area of blindspot and have loss so much visual sharpness. So I had no other choice but to quit my study at the time and aren't able to work since.
My left eye has partially recovered now however, enough for me to perform housework by myself and some light computer and smartphone usage (by using 27" monitor, with 200% zoom and the largest font on phone) but I am still unable to cross the road without anyone's help. Luckily, I have my family who looks after me and who I literally can't go far without.
Thus, going back to study or getting a job is practically impossible at the moment. I am incapable to do a job like normal people could i.e. perform normal 8-12 working hours. My weak eyes tire me easily when engage in a task that demands strong focus, requiring me to close and rest them every 2-3 hours. I have tried to get financial help but have been refused from getting endorsement for the disability status. Both of my ophthalmologist and the psychiatrist who treated me before refused to endorse my application for disability status (a reference from a doctor who follow my case is required in the form) which would allow me to get the disability benefit from the government including getting a job for the disability. So, this health condition caught me stucked pretty badly.
I did some research and I know further follow up eye treatment and vision therapy could increase my chances from permanent blindness or buy me more years at the very least. I should at least keep trying and not give up. Perhaps second or third or fourth opinion from other ophthalmologists and vision experts would help.
Non surgical vision therapy cost $150-200 per session and assessment consultation alone cost $800. From, what I researched, I will need 1-2 therapies a week for 1-2 years. According to my current ophthalmologist, nothing can be done for me anymore surgically. So, I had to consider non-surgical alternative too. Another healing alternative for me would be the stem cell treatment for eyes. It costs $5000 per treatment session to be done at least 5 times for a full treatment course. There is also experimental anti-cancer injection to treat ROP from what I read.
For now, my family can't afford to pay for these treatment cost for me and the expenses during treatments such as transportation, accomodation or relocation i.e. the nearest vision therapy centre and stem cell treatment centre are both 5 hours drive from home.
I am urgently and desperately in need of your help. Please support my cause and give me a chance to see and live better as well as opportunity to give back to my family and the world upon my recovery. Thank you so much.
And thank you for reading, like, share and following my campaign.
