Save and educate the girl child- the mother of tomorrow

Swami Vivekananda once said,"I ask you all so earnestly to open girl's schools in every village and try to uplift them. If the conditions of women are raised, then their children will, by their noble actions, glorify the name of the country."

In respect to what he said I, Bikram Roy, want to conclude that girl education is like sowing the seed which give rise to green, cheerful and full-grown family plant. Today's girl child will be the mother of tomorrow.

Generally a woman has the maximum impact on the social, economical decisions making in the family. At micro level, educated woman help in making the whole family, including the older family members, understand the values and importance of education and at macro level educated woman add to the social and economical development of the society.

'Save and educate the girl child' is a social initiative in order to fight against the practice of female foeticide. The initiative also aims at protecting, safeguarding, supporting, and educating the girl child.

Female foeticide is both a national problem and a social evil. It’s unbelievable that the urge for a boy-child makes them so cruel that they dare to kill the yet to be born. Women have been subjected to injustice since ages. This is because some people feel that the birth of girl child may lower their status in the society. There is discrimination against the girl child and an extreme desire for boy-child among some sections of our society. Moreover people who live in extreme poor condition often think that the girl child would cause more economic hardship to them. The social evil of dowry system further worsens the situation. Some people think that they will to have to arrange for huge dowry for her marriage. And to top that illiteracy is the leading of all social evils. Illiterate people are ignorant people, and not able to judge their actions in the right perspective. Poor households, when faced with the choice, often choose to send their male children to school instead of their female children, instead saddling female children with back-breaking household chores.

The women need to be empowered. A woman has every right to give birth to a baby. The girl child is a blessing of God. We just need to give her a chance, and she will make us proud with her achievements.

We have been working with the most disadvantaged children to provide them better healthcare, education opportunities and protection from physical and mental exploitation.We rid them from the clutches of malnutrition, send them to schools, help pregnant women deliver safe, pull children out of child labour – all with an aim to give children a happy childhood.
