My family has experienced countless painful and trying moments due to our circumstances in life. Most of the time we had troubles in sustaining our daily meals and providing for our household expenses especially medical needs. I can no longer count how many times my parents endure their sickness because we can’t afford to send them to the hospital. I, too, have suffered many times because of material poverty, but the most painful from all the experiences I had was to watch and wait for my parents to slowly die at home all because we can't support their medical needs. It was a very traumatic and devastating experience.
My Dad, Enrique C. Quiom, was diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome NSTEMI and Congestive Heart Failure Functional III last December 2018. Since then he has been suffering from his heart problems and from his other disease, Pulmonary tuberculosis. The doctors prescribed different kinds of medicines to sustain his life, but we cannot afford to buy all of them. I have been asking for help from different institutions/individuals but I have failed to get the help we need.
My father’s tuberculosis started in 2010 and he has recently been diagnosed with heart and mental problems. My mother suffered from myoma or an ovarian tumor in 2012 but has never undergone any medical operation due to a lack of financial resources. I would like to believe that she was healed through a miracle. Although my mother has fragile health and often gets sick, she had to force herself to work to provide for my family's daily needs. She has no permanent job. My brothers now have their own families and are likewise suffering from the same financial difficulty.
The estimated amount that I am trying to raise will keep my Dad alive for seven months. It covers his medicines, medical supplies, and hospitalization just in case. When my parents were hospitalized before, Philhealth paid for their medical bills. This year, we are no longer a Philhealth member. My family is not included on the list of the indigent families submitted by DSWD to Philhealth for membership. I found out this bad news this month of April. I went to the DSWD office in my hometown for inquiries about the exclusion of my family from the list but they provided me with no answers.
I come from a very poor household. I am blessed to be the only one in the family who was able to finish high school and college. I graduated this year at Ateneo de Naga University with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. I will take the review proper in Manila this coming months in preparation for the October 2019 board exam through the help of someone who has offered to shoulder all my review and living expenses in Manila. The review proper will last for five months. After the review, I will start working, and I will be able to provide for my family's needs. In the meantime, I badly need your help to prolong my Dad's life. Recently, he almost dies at home because he has no medicines. PLEASE HELP SAVE MY DAD.
