Since 21 January 2020, Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic Outbreak News have been replaced with daily situation report of wide spreads across the world. With the virus spreading in over 202 countries in the world today, killing over 25000 people, third world countries like UGANDA have neither been spared.
With over 300 cases registered as of today June 10 2020, health authorities in Uganda have intensified prevention measures that have included quarantines and total local down of the country. As a consequence, house hold incomes, food, transport and medical supplies have been cut off from the world’s poorest. This has left thousands of marginalized communities at high risk of either contracting the virus or dying of hunger.
Ronald under TYDI-Uganda has embarked on a number of activities to save 1000 most vulnerable families (headed by the elderly and children) of central Uganda by providing sensitization on the best practices on how to avoid contraction of the virus, provide basic needs that include food, water and clothing. TYDI-Uganda with partners will also provide protective gears like masks, sanitizers and soap.
TYDI-Uganda will work closely with 1000 vulnerable families headed by the elderly and children by providing sensitization (through community radios) on the virus together with the village health teams on ground to prevent further spread of the virus.
A community distribution center will be set up to provide free basic needs like food and water which will help save these families from hunger.
Free masks, sanitizers and soap will keep the entire families out of danger by keeping clean and washing hands at all times.
