Campaign Story
HELP #SARAHSTRONG RECOVER FROM CANCER
Sarah is a loving wife and a hands-on mother to an 8 year old boy.
She is the 2nd among 3 siblings, and a thoughtful daughter to her parents.
As a child, she has a lot of dreams and aspirations, which she has started to build in the past decade.
She has touched the lives of so many around the world as she is respected and loved by the people she works with as a Virtual Assistant.
Her passion for helping others is remarkably felt by the many persons she helps every day.
Five years ago, at the age of 24, she started to feel a lump on her left breast which prompted her to have it checked via ultrasound.
The ultrasound results suggested the lump was benign which gave her a sigh of relief, but the lump was getting bigger so she decided to have it excised.
It was then that the surgeon suspected the mass was malignant, and the biopsy confirmed that it was. At that point it was categorized to be at Stage 2.
A month after, she had a full mastectomy of her left breast including the lymph nodes. She lived a normal life after all those surgeries.
In the fourth quarter of 2020, she experienced intermittent back pain which became more intense in mid-December. She was thinking that it was an inflamed disc because of similar symptoms so resorted to physical therapy.
Last Dec 27, the pain became intolerable that she is not able to get up from bed, so she was on an ambulance to the emergency room in the afternoon to have this checked.
There, the world started to crumble...
The Xray showed a lot of shadows in the ribs, pelvis and spinal column, which suggests bone metastasis.
This was the reason for her pain all along.
She got admitted in the hospital for a few days where all work-ups were done, including MRI which was traumatic for her as well because she is claustrophobic.
All the results came and each result yielded very bad results.
Doctors explaining each result seemed to feel like being stabbed several times, it was a lot to take in and very difficult to accept.
There were numerous crying moments and sleepless nights.
The MRI results show that the T9 and T12 bones have pathological compression fracture, meaning that the cancer cells have eaten them up and causing them to shrink. The other bones in her spine also already shows pathological activities as well.
The Ultrasound results show that her organs are thankfully clean and normal, which is a big plus to whatever treatment she will be getting.
THE PLAN
After speaking to her oncologists, Sarah is advised to do radiotherapy to prevent her spinal columns from collapsing and cutting the spinal canal.
This procedure needs to be done ASAP to stop further damage.
The radiotherapy needs to be done in high doses for 10 days.
At the same time, she will need bone modifying agents to be taken monthly for 3 years.
After the radiotherapy, she will undergo treatments from the medical oncologist that may include chemotherapy or hormone therapy.
We need almost 1 million Pesos for Sarah to reclaim her body and her life.
In a world of chaos we need bright souls like Sarah.
