Santa's Helpers: Service Learning Project

Introduction

Hello Everybody! My name is Jordan Treimanis and like many of you, I am getting very excited for the Holiday Season!! Unfortunately, there are many people and families who are unable to get in the holiday spirit this year. As happy and joyous as Christmas can be, for parents, it can come with quite a bit of finical pressure. Presents, gifts and material items are not what christmas is about but for children, alot of the christmas excitement comes from the anticipation of waking up christmas morning to see what Santa has brought them. Not only does Christmas bring a large financial burden but on top of that families still have to pay their monthly bills, grocery bills, car payments etc. For families who have financial issues during the rest of the year have even harder time during the holiday season when they should be full of cheer and happiness.

What is my goal?

My goal for this Christmas is to help three families that are in need! I have these families chosen but, I can not do this alone! I need YOUR help! Christmas is a great time to do a good deed and is not only rewarding to them but rewarding to you! I am looking to raise as much money as I can to split evenly between these three families. To avoid the money going towards anything other than Holiday reasons or towards the familiy, I will be doing all the shopping myself. None of the money raised will be directly given to the families. Some of the things that may be purchased with the money could include; toys, hats and mittens, childrens clothing, books, grocery gift cards etc.

Who is being helped?

Being helped is three families and a donation to something in parrsboro, I will tell you a little about each:

Family 1: A single mother with a 3 1/2 year old little girl who is only making enough money to keep a roof over their head and to keep groceries in their home. She says, "I realize that gifts are of little merit to a successful and memorable Christmas but at her age, I cringe at the though of having to explain that she wasn't good enough for a visit from santa."

Family 2: A single mother with two daughters ages 8 and 17. She is experiencing cutbacks at work and only making ends meat. Most of their extra money is going towards her oldest daughters Graduation, Prom and Schooling but she doesn't want to let her girls down for the Christmas they deserve.

Family 3: A single Parent with two children ages 8 and 13 who recently got out of a bad marriage/divorce. Before, they used to be the family who donated to Christmas Daddies and Salvation Army every year but now they no longer have the money to supply even their own children with a Christmas.

Why am I doing this?

Not only am I doing this as a holiday good deed but also as a part of my education. I am in the International Baccalaurate Program through my school and to graduate as a part of this program in June, I have to complete an aspect of this program called CAS (Creativity, Action, Service). Some of the outcomes I need to meet and will meet by completing this project include; Planning and initiating activities, engaging with issues of social importance, considering ethical implications and showing perservance and commitment. If you are interested, you can read more about it here: http://www.ibo.org/diploma/curriculum/core/cas/

How can YOU can help me?

Like I said before, money can be tight around the holidays but if you are looking to do a good deed or make a charitable donation... It would be more than appreciated if you could help me to help these three families get the Christmas that they deserve. I am asking for any donation that you can afford. You can send it through this website, on this page that I have created.

For any concerns, questions or any other means of donation/inquiries, please feel free contact me at [email protected]. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this! Wishing everyone a very Happy Holiday season :)
