Santa Cause is a community outreach and volunteer event that seeks to engage children and youth through games and educational activities and to create relationships with community leaders to develop scalable long term support.
Santa Cause Bangkok was born during the aftermath of the flood crisis of 2011 when countless squatter communities in Bangkok were flooded for months, leaving many people especially elderly and children in distress. Through our Wipe the Tide flood relief campaign we created the funding and volunteer community to bring positive energy, gifts and games to the children of these communities. We wanted to show that people care about all the victims of the flood disaster regardless the social or cultural background. As events fell during the time of Christmas we took the opportunity to dress up as Santas and his helpers and engaged with hundreds if not thousands of children giving birth to what is known as Santa Cause.
The positive feedback and success of the event promted us to continue Santa Cause with the goal of bringing people together to create something massively positive in our city. We want to provide an opportunity for Bangkokians to give something back to as many communities and kids as possible, communities that are otherwise rather sidelined or not on the radar of the public consciousness. We would like to share and spread positive, universal human values of inclusion and compassion and celebrate Bangkok's diverse communities and their people. We're aware of potential implications through our volunteer events but through the commitment and collaboration of community leaders, organizations and our volunteers we are able to create something valuable for the communities and their children. Santa Cause is one step in the long-term picture of engaging communities and youth through education and inspiration.
