Campaign Story
Sangita Bepari, 30 years old, resident of Visakhapatnam, India, needs a kidney transplant, but the costs of the surgery and the post surgical care are prohibitive for her and her family to bear. Surgery is her only hope of survival at this point. Thus volunteers (her friends, family friends and acquaintances) are planning a fundraiser to help offset her expenses.
In 2013, Sangita was diagnosed with renal reflux, which caused irreversible damage to her kidneys. Her right kidney currently only functions at 25 percent, and her left kidney has completely failed. She has been dialysis three times a week for the past two years. Her blood pressure is also extremely irregular due to the complications with her kidneys.
Despite her health challenges, Sangita is very optimistic and focuses on the positive aspects of what life has to offer and is optimistic of recovery. She has a wonderful family surrounded by a strong support system of loved ones who have undergone testing to see if they are suitable kidney donors for which she is extremely grateful. Fortunately, one of her relatives is a match and has agreed to be a donor. She hopes to resume her normal lifestyle once she receives her new kidney.
A kidney transplant costs approximately $30,000 in India. Even with health insurance, Sangita faces significant medical expenses related to her transplant. For the rest of his life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-transplant rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $500 to $1,000 per month, and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Her surgery is scheduled on July 6 of this year. We are hoping your contribution irrespective of how small or large the amount, will help Sangita to go through the kidney transplant cost and also the post care. Every bit of help is greatly appreciated!
