Samuel’s Surgery and Recovery Fund

I was involved in a motorcycle accident in Kampala, Uganda on May 2019. A boda boda rider was riding on the wrong lane and when trying to maneuver his way back to the correct lane he ended up knocking me while I was riding on my motorcycle.

I broke my right forearm in the accident and recovered after a few months, however my left leg developed some intense pain later on. The pain seemed related to neurological issues and I was diagnosed with damaged nerves on my hip area at IHK (International Hospital Kampala). The Neurosurgeon doctor recommended intensive physiotherapy for 3 months which I completed in September 2019.

The pain in my hip was on and off throughout the physiotherapy and later months usually with moderate discomfort. However in November 2019 the pain got a lot worse and I developed a limp in my left leg that caused increased discomfort during walking and overall normal day to day activity, while performing my recommended self physiotherapy and while sleeping at night.

My family recommended seeking a second opinion in Nairobi from a renowned and reliable doctor. Once I was able to get back to Kenya during the COVID 19 pandemic border lockdown in late August, I consulted a professor specialized in orthopedic surgery who correctly diagnosed me with Coxarthrosis that had later developed into Osteoarthritis that now required a hip replacement due to extreme degeneration of the Femur bone curtilage, bone density and overall bone integrity.

The current total basic budget for this procedure is $ 10,000 (Kes 1,000,000/-) to enable me to get back to having full mobility of my hip and left leg and go back to my normal day to day life.

Due to the level of deterioration of the femur bone, the orthopedic surgeon recommends immediate surgery to ensure the deterioration does not spread and compromise any other parts of the the bone structure that may need costly post surgery attention.
