Hi! I'm Sam and I'm beyond excited to be volunteering my time and efforts to conserve marine life in Belize. Belize is home to the 2nd largest Barrier Reef in the world, and it is beautiful. Unfortunately, due to many environmental concerns from littering to over-fishing (and many more), the reef is suffering. My goal is to work with a team of volunteers on an ongoing mission to help restore and save it.
The Belize Barrier Reef provides homes and shelter to many marine organisms, as well as acting as a barrier to protect shorelines from large waves and flooding. It is also a large part of the sustainability of the local economy in Belize - the country relies on the income of tourists that come solely to see the reef.
The funds that I raise will not be lining my pockets - most of them will be going to the International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ), who provide volunteers like me with basic dorm accommodations, 3 meals per day, and the opportunity to work. The remaining funds will allow me to afford a flight there and home, travelers insurance, and rental equipment. Any unused or funds that exceed the campaign limit will be donated directly to Belize's local economy.
This is a work trip from start to finish, and it is work that gravely needs to be done. I have saved $1000 of my own money for this volunteer journey, and I will be continuing to save, but I need your help to reach my goal. Any money raised over the campaign limit will be donated directly to Belize efforts to maintain the Barrier Reef - none of this is staying with me!
Thank you for considering a donation, every penny counts! Let's save the world one sea at a time!
