Lolita Bonifacio, Lolet, or known as Sam to close friends, is fighting against Stage 4 Lung Adenocarcinoma. She was diagnosed last February and started Intravenous Chemotherapy treatment in March.
On the fourth week of April, she was rushed to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing. According to the cardiologist, this was due to pericardial effusion wherein there's unusual amount of fluid around her heart. She underwent surgery to drain the fluid.
After series of Intravenous Chemotherapy, computerized tomography (ct) scan was performed on June 1 to check any changes or developments. Sadly, the treatment did not able to shrink the cancer and it has metastasized. Her oncologist recommended oral chemotherapy which is more expensive. The chemo pill would cost hundred thousand per month and that cost far exceeds the means of the family.
In July, Sam underwent additional cycles of iv chemotherapy using different combination of drugs/medicines since we could not afford the oral chemotherapy. However, the oncologist decided to stop it because fluid around her heart and lungs were starting to show again. It was an indication that the drugs did not able to slow down the cancer cells. Again, she suggested the oral chemotherapy with emphasis.
God is good. Last August, Sam's oncologist learned a good news and shared it to us. She informed us that AstraZeneca has program that allows qualified patients to avail medicine for lung cancer at a lower price. With the help and recommendation of her oncologist, Sam applied and got qualified to the program.
Sam and her oncologist felt that oral chemo was the answer for her. Through the help of friends and relatives, she is taking the chemo pills now. Aside from the oral medicine, she also needs to undergo laboratory tests and follow up check up from time to time.
We are truly grateful for the moral and financial support from our family, relatives and friends. However, she needs long term treatment to beat cancer and it's quite hard to gather funds due to pandemic/lockdown. With this, we continuously seek any help or donations for her ongoing medication/treatment. Any amount will go a long way towards her healing.
Your prayers are also needed and will be appreciated greatly. Thank you so much in advance for your assistance and prayers. May God bless you always.
