Same Love Project

The Same Love project aims to stamp out homophobia and champion equal marriage by exploring same sex relationships and show them for what they are - caring relationships between two people.  Gay, straight or otherwise - it’s the same love.

The project will produce a body of A2 sized photographic portraits of same sex couples shot at their homes, which will be exhibited to raise awareness of this important issue.  Exhibitions will be planned to coincide with important dates in the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) calendar to include IDAHO Day (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, 17th May 2013) which aims to stamp out homophobia on a global level and Bournefree (Bournemouth Pride, 12-14^th July)

The Same Love project is supported by Over the Rainbow Bournemouth, an NHS funded, support and advice service for the LGBT community in Bournemouth and surrounding area.

Project Inspiration & Significance

The project has been inspired by a quote from Stonewall about the public opposition that the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill has met, in light of the pending legislation change which will allow same sex couples to marry:

“Long-term gay relationships are being publicly compared to ‘bestiality’, ‘slavery’ and ‘child abuse’ by opponents of equal marriage – who will stop at almost nothing to prevent Britain’s lesbian, gay and bisexual people from enjoying this last measure of equality.” www.stonewall.org.uk.

There is a high degree of public misunderstanding about what it means to be in a same sex relationship and this is driven by stereotypes and ignorance that surrounds the LBGT community as a whole.

The voice of the LGBT community often remains unheard as a marginalised minority group, whose members fear persecution.  This project will help raise their voice and spread the important message at a time where support is needed to ensure that equal rights are granted.

The Same Love project will help stamp out homophobia and spread the important message to the opponents of same sex marriage, that it’s the same love.

Funding, Backing & Sponsorship

The Same Love project is looking for funding from organisations and individuals who believe in equal rights and that just because a person is attracted to someone of the same sex, it doesn’t make them any different to anyone else.  It’s the same love and people deserve the same rights.

Depending on the amount that you are able to give, the Same Love project may offer in return:

Will Corder is a proud member of local Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, who is passionate about the project and believes whole heartedly that the message he is trying to spread will help not only the local LGBT community, but also help educate people on a national level that love is love, whether it’s homosexual or heterosexual - it’s the same love.
