Campaign Story
Last week, Samantha, who is one of my best friends in this world, called
me and told me something I never thought I would hear. She had been
diagnosed with breast cancer at only 32 years old.
Stage 2, the
doctors said. It would be a rough road ahead between chemo and a
mastectomy but the doctors are optomistic for Samantha's future.
I
immediately wanted to created a campaign to help Sam but she told me no.
I knew she would be facing serious medical bills and a lot of missed
work. Too proud to ask for help on her own and out of other options, I'm
here to tell Samantha's story and humbly ask for assistance for her on
this long journey she has ahead.
Samantha is a self-employed
freelance makeup artist and one of THE best in Atlanta. However being
self-employed means no disability leave and no insurance through an
employer. Sam has Obamacare but because of the high deductibles she has
to pay over $6,000 before she can even begin her chemotherapy treatment.
I refuse to let this go too long before she can get well!
In terms
of missing gigs, Sam may have to miss several depending on how rough the
chemo is on her. Once treatment is completed she'll have to undergo
mastectomy surgery and will be out of work for a few weeks while she
heals.
In addition to all this, she is in the middle of relocating
back to Los Angeles to be closer to her mother which will be great for
her to have that support, however relocation costs on top of everything
else adds yet another burden.
So everyone is clear on where their donation is going here is the breakdown of the $15,000:
$6,000 - Insurance deductible to begin chemo - DONE!
$5,000 - Moving expenses to LA to be closer to mom
$4,000 - Lost wages from missing makeup gigs as Sam is a full time freelance artist
You
may know Samantha or you just may know me and if you know me you know
how incredible of a person and friend this woman is. She's always been
there for me in my darkest times and now I'm here to uplift and help her
through beating breast cancer.
Please donate, share and spread the word of Samantha's story. We can help her get through this together.
Love you all,
Marisa
