Salome’s Circle Sexpo Funding Campaign

Salome’s Circle is the first peer support group for those working on the periphery of the sex-work industry providing sexually explicit entertainment (strippers/exotic dancers) in Melbourne, Australia. The group was founded in part to address the lack of support available for this particular cohort. The group currently has 95 members and is continuing to expand.

Salome’s Circle is both a support and rights-based advocacy group that meets bi-monthly in the Melbourne CBD and manages a private digital space to collate and share knowledge and information. It is a space to combat social isolation, to debrief, to access transition support if desired, to gain education on doing taxes, to access stripper/exotic dancer friendly services, and to engage in empowerment building.

Currently we are trying to expand our membership base and develop our services. One of the ways we have thought to accomplish this goal is by having a physical presence at Sexpo 2017 in Melbourne. We see this as an opportunity to combat the stigma associated with stripping with the wider public, reach out to those past, current and future strippers to provide information and support, and network with other sex industry organisations present at this annual event. As an unfunded community group, we are looking to raise money to be able to have a stall in this space and to assist us in being able to hand out brochures and other relevant information on our group and the stripping industry.
