SAFE WATER FOR RURAL GHANA

According to UNICEF and WHO, over 50% of the population in Northern Ghana lack access to safe drinking water and therefore resort to the use of polluted water such as surface water as drinking water sources. As a result child mortality due to waterborne diseases are high all because of lack of safe water access. There is therefore a substantial need for not only “improved” but also “safe” water management and water treatment options in Northern Ghana according to UNICEF.

Vea- Tangapooren is a branch village located about 10km north of Bolgatanga; the capital of the upper east region of Ghana. The village has an estimated inhabitants of 500 with 52% being women. The village has no potable water and the women mostly single parents, trek with their children for more than a kilometer to find the closest source of water shared by the community and livestock. This unwholesome water is used for all household chores, bathing and drinking putting their families at great risk of water-borne diseases including bilharzia.

Asige; a non-profit came to learn about the lack of clean water in the community as a result of their work with the women and quietly informed DrinkWell Foundation of their great need for potable water.

It is our hope that you will join us raise $9323.80 to sink two mechanized boreholes for this community of about 500 as a gift to them and their children as they prepare to mark the seventy-second Ndaakoya festival of their illustrious community which is scheduled for November 2019.
