Sabra’s Study Abroad

Hello friends and family! 

I am trying to raise money to go to Spain in the Summer of 2013 to complete my Spanish 4 credit. The study abroad trip  is a requirement for my degree, which in case you were wondering, is Early Childhood Develoment (i.e. Elementary School Teacher) with a certificate in Bilingual edcation (Spanish). Not only is it required but it is also a great way to experience another culture, and get some real experience speaking Spanish. The program is approximately 2,500 which will cover my room and board as well as classes I will be taking in Spain, but does not cover airfare or other necessities.  For those of you that are wondering why I care about Spanish in the first place, here are a few reasons:

1. As there is a large Spanish speaking population in Texas, it will give me a skill that is in high demand, enabling me to have better job prospects upon graduation. 

2. Learning a foreign language makes you smarter (look it up!) 

3. I'm good at it. 

I feel a little silly doing a fundraiser for myself, but I thought it over, and I am willing to forfeit some dignity for a chance at a great education. 

Now it's time to do some bragging Here are some stats:

Current GPA at Austin Community College= 3.83

Volunteering with Austin Partners in Education and organization that helps children in low income areas and schools get a quality education

Volunteering as a mentor at Big Brothers Big Sisters USA which is an organization that provides a mentor to a child that comes from a less than desirable circumstance and could use a friend.
