Campaign Story
My name is Ryno van Wyk. I’m 24 and live in Johannesburg South Africa. I recently qualified for the Ironman World Championship to be held in Kailua Kona, Hawaii on the 13th of October 2018.
For those that are not familiar with Ironman, it is an ultra distance triathlon consisting of a 3.8 kilometer swim, 180 kilometre cycle followed by a 42.2 kilometre marathon. Kona will be my first full distance Ironman.
I qualified for Kona in Laguna Phuket, Thailand this past November with a time of 4:50:57. It was my first 70.3 (half-ironman) and also my first overseas trip.
My reason for fundraising is the vast expenses connected with racing in Kona. It’s seriously expensive! I’m flying halfway around the world, to arrive at least 2 weeks prior to race-day to shake jet lag, to acclimatize to the weather and to do final preperation / training before I race. Add to that an extremely poor South African currency and you will no doubt agree that expenses are rather high.
That’s where you come in (I hope).
Although I am 100% committed to each aspect of preparation for Kona, I am unable to come up with the money on my own and require some sort of outside financial assistance in order for the race to materialize.
For the past several months I have invested a great deal of time, effort and every bit of money I own in triathlon. This race bears great significance for me and I would be incredibly appreciative of your assistance!
I am super excited to be competing at Kona and hope that you will join me on this journey.
God bless
