As many of our friends and family know, my son Ryan was born deaf. Yet, he has never been held back his disability.
He is an active, exuberant and loving young man who has nothing but the upmost respect and love for everyone and everything that he encounters. His amazing ability to learn and absorb information has stunned his teachers. His golf swing would make professionals jealous. He loves Garfield, Madagascar and Toy Story. Given all the time in the world, he could tell you every little tidbit you would ever want to know about hippos.
While Ryan has achieved more than any doctor could imagine, he has yet to hear the sounds of life — more importantly, he has never heard the people who love him tell him so.
With the age of technology on our side, a cochlear implant will help Ryan achieve everything in his wildest dreams. There is nothing in this world that would make me happier to give my son the best life—a life that he rightfully deserves to the fullest extent that I can give him.
But again, in our society, money talks louder than words. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the grand total of $54,900. For said price, Ryan would have cochlear implants on both ears, all surgeries, all hospital stays, and subsequent medical appointments covered.
Please help me introduce a world my son has never heard before, and give him a new experience in life — an experience that everyone deserves.
I am hoping that when this is all done and over with I will take him to his favorite zoo to see his beloved Hippos for the 100,000 time, but the first time he will be able to hear his Hippos.
Most importantly, please help give me the chance to let my son hear me tell him that I love him.
